Surgery was a Success!

After approximately 3 hours of surgery Luke is out and in recovery!
Dr Gadre said surgery was a success. There is a 2 mm window between the nerve that can cause facial paralysis if severed and the nerve that causes loss of taste if severed, the implant snakes right between the 2 and into the cochlea! We are so grateful it went perfectly and his facial nerves and sense of taste are left intact. The implant will be raised from the skull a little more than expected because Luke's main blood vessel between his heart and brain is shallow, so Dr Gadre wasn't able to recess the device as much as he would have liked, but as Luke grows it will become less and less noticeable.
